Volunteering programme ´Som tu pre teba´ (I am here for you) is focused on tutoring of children and spending free time with children from socially deprived families – more particularly with children from selected crisis and low threshold centres in Bratislava. The programme is conducted on an individual basis it means that one volunteer works with one child – the same child within the entire programme.
How does the volunteering programme work
Trained volunteers meet with the particular child once in a week for 2-3 hours directly in the facility of the crisis or low threshold centre. They help the child to prepare for school to do his/her homework, they learn together the topics which were explained at school or they spend time with the child by playing games or by talking what happened in the last week. Relation beneficial for the child is developed between the child and the volunteer - the child experiences the feeling of acceptance, he/she gains a positive role model in the person of a volunteer, it helps with the social inclusion of the child.
The role of the volunteer in the programme is of a supporting nature and in no way, it should substitute the role of a parent. This volunteer activity should be conducted for at least one school year.
