Volunteering

A survey showed that up to one half of young Slovaks help selflessly

We have a great news. Slovakia is flooded with goodwill. Up to 50% of young people aged between 15 and 30 years do volunteer. This great news came up from the survey on the volunteering of youth. It was conducted by the Platform of Voluntary Centres and Organisations in cooperation with Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica.

One of the authors doc. PhDr. Alžbeta Brozmanová Gregorová, PhD. is very happy about the results: „Some time has passed from the last survey in 2011. We were curious how the situation has changed. We can be happy about the results. 50% of young people actively participate in volunteering. It is typical that this concerns mostly regular and long-term activities rather than one-time activity. 80% of young people volunteer longer than 12 months while 60% volunteer at least once a month or more often. "

Top is the area of environment, women help more

It is possible to volunteer in any area of life. All it takes is to choose. "Most popular area among young people is the area of environment, sports, health care, social services, children and youth organisations. More young women than men volunteer, more young people with university education than with elementary education, more young people from towns than from villages. “ adds Alžbeta Brozmanová Gregorová.

What prevents young people from volunteering?

The most common barrier in volunteering is lack of time. Young people also do not volunteer as they don’t have enough information on possibilities to volunteer or they are not asked to help .
