The volunteering programme “Som tu pre teba” focuses on tutoring and spending time with children from socially disadvantaged families from a crisis centre in Bratislava. This programme is run individually, one-on-one, throughout the duration of the programme.
How does it work?
Trained volunteers meet with a child in the crisis centre for 2-3 hours per week. They help them with their school work, homework, revision or they play games and talk with them about their lives. Meanwhile a relationship between the volunteer and the child is being formed, which is beneficial for the children in order to feel accepted and have a positive role model.
The role of volunteer in this programme is a supportive one and not meant to replace the role of the real parent. This volunteering activity a minimum commitmentof 1 year.
Conditions to be part of the program
The volunteering programme “Som tu pre teba” is most suitable for individuals aged 18 - 30 years old and over 50 years old but it is also open for volunteers of different age groups in case of interest. Potential volunteers must go through the introductory meeting, fill out contact forms and come to a personal interview.
After that they are trained and must participate in supervisions which take place once every two months. Volunteers must be over 18 years old. They should be patient, reliable in carrying out their duties within the programme, have an interest in working with disadvantaged children and the willingness and motivation to dedicate 1 to 3 hours of their time per week.
