Bratislava International Church
Today I’d like to share with you a very special place in Bratislava which I have come to find probably the most welcoming group of people towards foreigners you can meet: The Bratislava International Church congregation. They, meeting once a week for Sunday worships at 10.00 a.m. in malý kostol, are a warm and welcoming bunch of people from all over the world who will be very happy to meet new people from inside and outside of Bratislava. When my sister and I went there for the first time we hadn’t been sitting down for five minutes, when a lovely British couple approached us and introduced themselves. Not long after that we were very naturally taken to the Next Apache café next doors for the after-worship-coffee-hour and I was tricked into a short and (at least for my side) quite disastrous chess game.
Life in the congregation is filled with events: The young adults group until the age of 35 is meeting every Friday for karaoke and beer in the Red Lion Pub and once a month for a lunch or special activity with the same British couple that approached my sister and me first – fun times full of stories and laughter. The choir is meeting every Wednesday in the malý kostol and is always glad about new members or visitors. There are two bible study groups as well as a youth group from age 12 onwards once a week, and Sunday school for the children on every Sunday during the worship.
Even if you don’t necessarily define yourself as Christian or religious at all you will still be more than welcome to join the congregation during any of their activities, may it be the coffee-hour, the karaoke and beer or the worship itself. As we sung on the morning of my second worship with them: All are welcome in this place!
I have only been here for a couple of weeks now but I can honestly say that the Bratislava International Church already feels like some kind of a home for me. If you have time to spare and would like to meet an amazing crowd of wonderful human beings, please don’t hesitate to drop by, you won’t regret it!späť na zoznam
