Volunteer Awards 2016
On Monday December 12th the Volunteer Awards took place. First of all: what a well chosen occasion! Loved it! That huge mirror hall with all the stone carvings and columns – wow! Plus I felt like a king when entering the building because the was a red carpet all the way up to our ceremony.
Unfortunately I partly missed the speech of my boss Gabika as I was involved in welcoming and guiding people to the Awards but Lubka (my coordinator) and I could join a few minutes afterwards . And of course the mayor of Bratislava also found some greeting and introductory words. Between the handing over of the certificates carried out by two nationally-wide known actors a trio consisting of percussion, a harp player and singing entertained the audience and ensured the atmosphere of a nice celebration. All of the honoured people took a picture together which you can see just above this text. I would like to congratulate the following people who were awarded in 2016:
Frederika – Centrum Memory
Tím – Mladez ulice
František - Dobrovolnicka skupina Vrba
Dušan - Pam Map
Tím – Kopčany Ulita
Volunteer programme - Dobrovolnicka skupina Vrba
Volunteer coordinator - Karina Andrášiková - Mladez ulice
So when the formal ceremony was over the most important part began: food and drinks. No I'm only joking! So this was the time when everyone got together less formal and had a good talk with each other. Later I was working at the wardrobe handing out coats and scarves of the guests.
To me this was a very special night to see who actually volunteers and in what different types of fields!
With regard to the amount of time and love every volunteer puts into his project I would say that everybody deserves a price. But occasionally of course some very special volunteers have to be honoured in order to inspire other volunteers to continue their work and to encourage the people around us to volunteer.
Thank you so much for reading through and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your families. The next blog entry will be online in the middle of January as far as I can say.
